At present, eye diseases have increased significantly in districts including Chitwan. Some municipalities are trying to control the disease by closing educational institutions. Doctors have suggested that if you can maintain social distance and keep your hands clean like Covid-19, you can avoid the disease.
Ophthalmologist Dr. Kumudini Subedi of Bharatpur Eye Hospital, said that attention should be paid to hand hygiene and social distancing as in the case of Covid-19 to prevent the spread of eye disease. She said, ‘We should wash our hands from time to time, not touch our eyes with our hands, stay away from infected patients.’
She pointed out that pink eye disease is more common, especially in the rainy season, and that viruses usually spread this disease. “We have taken it as a communicable disease that affects many people,” she said. In hostels, schools, hospitals, and prisons, where there is a lot of crowding, there is a greater possibility of moving easily from one to another.
Stating that it takes 24 hours to a week for this disease to spread from one person to another, she informed that some people suffer from three weeks to a month. She said, ‘When the patient first came to us, his eyes were swollen, when he woke up in the morning, he noticed his eyes were swollen, his eyes were blocked by mucus, he had more tears, and it was difficult to see in the light.” He says that it is visible.
She informed that in the case of severe eye disease, it can cause sores on the pupil of the eye (cornea). “If you see a patient with red eyes, it is better for healthy people to stay away from them,” she suggested, “to avoid this, you can use dark glasses.” Glasses help in prevention, but it does not mean that it does not transfer from one to another.
She added that if someone in the house has an eye disease, they should stay away from that person. Keeping all patients in separate rooms is even better. There is only one bathroom in the house, if a healthy person touches the light switch, door handle, etc., where the patient has wiped his eyes, this disease spreads.
Dr. Subedi suggests that if you get this disease, you should come to the hospital and get checked. According to him, you should not go to the medical center and take medicine without testing, the ophthalmologist may not even look at it when you go to the medical center. Stating that in some cases some bad accidents happened when the pharmacist gave the medicine, she suggested using the medicine only after taking the opinion of a specialist doctor after developing an eye disease.
