Nepal’s foreign exchange reserves have decreased by 1.5 percent The total foreign exchange which was equal to Rs.1215 billion 800 million at the end of June 2079 has decreased to Rs.1197 billion 85 million at the end of July 2079. The exchange reserve in Nepal Rastra Bank was Rs.1056 billion 39 crores at the end of June 2079, but it remained at Rs.1049 billion 11 crores at the end of July 2079.
Foreign exchange reserves with banks and financial institutions (except Nepal Rastra Bank) were Rs. 159 billion 41 crores at the end of June 2079 and remained at Rs. 148 billion 74 crores at the end of July 2079.
The share of Indian currency in the total foreign exchange reserves of mid-July 2019 is 22.9 percent.
According to the National Bank, if the import of the first month of the financial year 2079/80 is taken as the basis, it seems that the foreign exchange reserves held by the banking sector will be enough to support 9.4 months of goods imports and 8.0 months of goods and services imports. At the end of July 2079, the ratios of foreign exchange reserves to gross domestic product, total imports and wide money supply are 24.7 percent, 66.8 percent and 22.2 percent respectively. At the end of June 2079, these ratios were 25.1 percent, 57.8 percent and 22.1 percent respectively.
